Mission

HYPE’s mission is to help young professionals become better engaged in community life, expand professional and social opportunities and become ambassadors for the Hartford Region.

In the process, we endeavor to position the Hartford Region as an attractive area for diverse young professionals and entrepreneurs to live, work and play.

History

What began as a focus group in 2006 has grown into one of America’s largest young professionals networks.

HYPE was created in 2006 by the MetroHartford Alliance as a young professionals networking group to attract and retain talented individuals and successful businesses in the Hartford Region.

The foundation for HYPE was laid by 15 young professionals who formed volunteer committees and established a list serve that grew to more than 1,700 young professionals in less than a year. Soon after its launch, HYPE implemented a formal membership structure and now boasts more than 4,000 members.

Volunteer committees coordinate, manage, and direct HYPE endeavors including social activities, professional development programs, community service volunteer opportunities, and civic events.

Collaboration

HYPE encourages cross-collaboration among agencies and organizations that offer programs and activities for young professionals and entrepreneurs. HYPE promotes the events and activities of others and acts as a clearinghouse as appropriate. Have an event you would love to promote to HYPE Members? We are happy to post it on our Other Events page! Looking to raise awareness of volunteer needs for your organization? We are happy to post information on our Volunteer Opportunities page.

If you are a HYPE member and want to get the word out about an event, fundraiser, or opportunity you are passionate about, you can write a Hanging Out With HYPE blog. We typically publish these blogs 2-3 weeks before the event to allow enough time for anyone interested to register. For guidelines and schedule, please contact Kim.

HYPE In The Community

HYPE members are very involved in the community! As part our mission, HYPE encourages cross-collaboration among agencies and organizations that offer opportunities to volunteer in the community.

HYPE gives back to the community in many ways, including our two signature events, Tee it Up for Charity at the Travelers Championship and Tons of Toys, and through our Community Involvement Committee, tasked with organizing hands on volunteer experiences throughout the year. Both of our signature events and Committee organized events benefit local community organizations.

With the incredible support of our members and volunteers, HYPE has made a significant impact on the community organizations we collaborate with. Our annual Tee It Up for Charity at the Travelers Championship event has raised over $133,000 dollars since 2010 for beneficiaries such as The First Tee of Connecticut, Junior Achievement of Southwest New England, Journey Home, Hartford’s Camp Courant, KNOX Inc, and The Village for Families & Children. Since 2006, HYPE has collected over 17,470 toys during our signature Tons of Toys event held each December, most recently befitting the youth and families of the YMCA of Greater Hartford.

HYPE’s Community Involvement Committee organizes a multitude of hands on community service events in the region. Some highlights include beautifying Riverside Park with Riverfront Recapture, organizing donations at Foodshare, planting trees with Knox, build days with Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity, and volunteering at Oak Hill’s Chapter 126 location.
